MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Psychological counseling at the Student Health Center is limited to acute, short term intervention (usually less than six sessions). The goal during the first session is to identify the problem and the treatment that may be indicated. Acute, short term therapy is often sufficient help to resolve a pressing problem, and/or make a critical decision. The Clinical Psychologist or Counseling Intern may determine the patient's problem is outside the Student Health Center's scope of practice during the first or subsequent sessions and refer the patient to specialized treatment agencies in the community. Students, under the age of 18, must be accompanied by their legal guardian at the first visit for screening and referral.

All individual counseling appointments are scheduled for one-hour.

 

The number and frequency of sessions is determined by the Clinical Psychologist and Counseling Interns.
Appointments are to be canceled by the patient at least 24 hours before the scheduled session so that theClinical Psychologist and Counseling Interns are able to use their time effectively.
