UPDATE
Saddleback College Food, Beverage, and Vending Update – June 2009
- On Monday, June 22nd, the SOCCCD Board of Trustees approved the cafeteria, satellite coffee cart, and beverage vending contracts put forward by Saddleback College, thus allowing the District to finalize all contracts. This message is to apprise the campus community of the following points of interest:
Pepsi will replace Coke as the beverage vendor of Saddleback College
- Pepsi will have 100% exclusivity on campus except for in the cafeteria where the company will have 75% exclusivity in the beverage coolers only. This means that Pepsi, as per the SOCCCD Board of Trustees approved contract held by the District, has the exclusive right to the Saddleback College campus to make beverages available for sale and distribution. When planning a program or event, please be sure to use Pepsi products. If you prefer Coke or another brand, there is no problem at all with individual purchases of products other than Pepsi. Feel free to bring a stash of your beverage of choice to keep in your office or backpack!
- The Student Development Office (SSC 210) will still process all refunds to those who loose money in the machines.
- Service phone numbers are posted on all machines. If you happen upon a broken machine, please also call the Office of Student Development at 949-582-4616.
- Saddleback College will benefit from increased scholarships funded by Pepsi as well as the popular KIIS FM promotions (as seen at OCC). All proceeds from the Pepsi contract go directly to Saddleback College, not the associated Student government (ASG).
New Beginnings, Inc. will manage the operations of the Saddleback College Cafeteria.
- Vince Lu and Darlene Nghiem are the owners of Newbeginnings, Inc. and therefore will continue to operate the cafeteria.
- Newbeginnings, Inc. has the first right to bid on any catering order for any event held on campus. Please contact cafeteria@saddleback.edu with any related questions. If Newbeginnings can’t fulfill your order at the price point you’re looking for, or if they don’t have access to the type of food you’d like to order, they’ll let you know and you’ll have the freedom to order out.
- Due to the SOCCCD 5271 regulations with regard to food ordering, it is often easier to work with Newbeginnings, Inc. as they don’t require advanced payment for food orders. Please remember that for any food orders on campus for refreshments using District funds (see Board Policy 3520) require additional approvals in the requisition process and therefore take more time to process.
- Newbeginnings is developing a web site where they’ll house their catering menus and monthly food menus. We’ll email the College community when the website is finished.
- All requests for ASG BBQs must be processed thought the Cafeteria as a catering order. Please email cafeteria@saddleback.edu for details.
Please note that the Cafeteria will be *closed* June 23rd through the second week of August as the floor is replaced.
