A Letter from the College President to prospective student Veterans

Dear Veterans, Active Military Personnel, and Military Family Members, President Tod A. Burnett

On behalf of the Saddleback College family, I thank you for your sacrifice and commitment to our country and am honored that you are considering to attend Saddleback College, where we pride ourselves on a rich tradition of excellence. Whether you seek to improve a skill, earn an associate degree or certificate, or transfer to a four-year college or university to complete your bachelor's degree, Saddleback College will help you achieve your goals every step of the way.

The college's Veterans Education and Transition Services (VETS) program was developed with your needs in mind and we hope you will take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and information our staff has to assist you. The VETS program will link you with any service that you need on or off campus and we are proud of the variety of services we offer our veterans.

You'll see that Saddleback College is committed to assisting our veterans from the moment they begin their studies through their graduation from our college. Our Veterans Outreach Aide will guide you from the start, even prior to your discharge. The VETS counselors are proficient in personal, career, and academic matters. The staff members in the college's Student Payment/Veterans Services Office are well-versed in the benefits you may qualify to receive. If you are looking for a community of veterans, our Veterans Club is active and offers you a chance to enhance your leadership opportunities while dialoging and connecting with other military veterans. Furthermore, our "Boots to Books" course is an academic class with an emphasis on transitioning combat warriors into the college and civilian community.

Saddleback College also offers numerous services and activities to help students succeed. Our Learning Assistance Program offers tutoring in almost any subject and is covered through your tuition. Our Health Center hosts health care professionals that will aid you with what ails you and offers mental health professionals on site that will assist you with acute mental health needs. Our Transfer Center is known statewide for its exceptional work with students seeking to continue their studies at a four-year college or university. Our Special Services Department is quite comprehensive and will provide accommodations and guidance for any challenges you face, from mobility concerns to learning disabilities and acquired brain injuries. The list of services is endless and if we cannot find what you need to help you reach your goals, we will work to find someone who can.

On the VETS "Virtual One-Stop" website you will find a "Roadmap to Success" which can guide you through your journey here at Saddleback College. As you go through the steps, if you have any questions please contact our Veterans Outreach Aide at vetsoutreach@saddleback.edu, our VETS Counselors, or your certifying officials. We aim to make the transition back to school as smooth as possible. All of us at Saddleback College wish you the best of luck on your new mission. Please do not hesitate to contact our VETS staff and please feel free to email us any advice on how we can better serve you on your journey.

Go Gauchos!

Sincerely,
Tod A. Burnett, Ed.D.
President
