FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I have taken the BAR update course Auto 205 at Saddleback College in the past how can I now register for another Auto 205 update course?
Due to limits on course repeatability, you may need to complete the “Academic Petition Form” and check off section 4.c where it states “There has been a significant change in industry or licensing standards AND I need to take the course to maintain employment or licensure."
You must then turn in this form along with a copy of your current smog license or your BAR license renewal reminder (as proof of change) to Admissions & Records. You will then be allowed to register for Auto205.
You can email these forms to firstname.lastname@example.org
Do I need a Smog Check Technician license to conduct Smog Checks?
Yes, a license is required to perform inspections or repairs on vehicles subject to the Smog Check Program. These are two separate smog licenses! You must complete a Smog Check Technician application and submit it to the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) to register for the Inspector License or the Repair License. The Licensing Unit will evaluate the application to see if you meet the requirements to take an examination for the Smog Check Technician.
