Emergency Short-term Loan Program

Saddleback College Emergency Short-Term Loan

The college offers short-term loans at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters to help students pay for college fees or books & supplies. Students may borrow up to $250. Emergency Short-Term Loans are not available to meet other needs such as housing or transportation. These loans are only given during the first two weeks of each semester. Loans bear no interest and must be repaid within 30 days of the date of the loan or the end of the term, whichever comes first.

To apply, visit the Financial Aid Office and complete an Emergency Short-Term Loan Application.

Students qualify for the Emergency Short-Term Loan if they:

  • Have registered in six or more units at Saddleback College
  • Be a new student or have a 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • Have already submitted a complete application for financial aid
  • Agree to repay the loan on or before the due date
  • Be clear of any hold at Saddleback College
  • Students whose financial aid is disbursed the first week of classes are NOT eligible for

the emergency short-term loan.

Allow 3-5 days for processing. The Financial Aid Office will call you when the emergency loan check is ready for pick up.  Bring a state or college issued I.D.

Emergency Short-Term Loan Recipients are responsible for payment of their loan even if financial aid is not awarded before the due date.

There are no extensions. You may make partial payments against your balance until the due date at the Financial Aid Office. For those failing to repay the loan, a “HOLD” will be placed on all records at Saddleback College.

Loans not collected will be turned over to a collection agency and/or the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office Tax Offset Program and applicants will be liable for the cost of collection in addition to the unpaid balance.
