Getting to know the college Learning Management System (LMS), Blackboard.  LMS is designed to present course content either in a fully online, hybrid or enhanced way.  Here are a few questions you might have: Although you are experienced Blackboard users, these common questions can come in handy.
Who can access my Blackboard course? Now that semester is over, how do I hide the course from My Course listing?
  Only your enrolled students can see content.    
How do I upload student roster in my Blackboard course? How do I export/archive my course now that semester is over?
  The student roster gets upload automatically.   Click here for instruction.
How do I get a course? How do I import my exported file from last semester course?
  Once the class schedule becomes available, course shell will be created automatically in Blackboard.  Each course ticket has it own course shell.  
  • Go to Control Panel ->Packages & Utilities ->Import Package/View Logs. Select Import Package
  • Click Browse My Computer to select exported file
  • Click Select All if you want to import everything from the exported file. (un-select the one you do not wish to import).
  • Click Submit.
How do I make course available to my students?
  Because of the automatic enrollment system, you must log in MySite to turn on the course. Click here to see how: How to make course visible to your students.
I teach multiple sessions, can I combine courses? How do make course unavailable to my students when the semester is over?

Yes.  If you have multiple face-to-face sessions or A & D courses, you may request to have these courses combined; however, you have to make the request before the semester starts.

Fully online and hybrid courses cannot be combined due to the current college policy.

  As soon as grade submission is due, the course will become unavailable to your students. Or if you prefer to do it manually, here is how to make course unavailable(invisible).
How do I get started with Blackboard? How do I remove discussion board posts now that I imported the course?

Email and set up an appointment with CIDDE at sccidde@saddleback.edu.


Go into your course and each Forum do the following:

  • Click the Tree View option locates on right corner of your discussion forum.
  • Click to Expand All to unfold all the threads.
  • Click the checkbox at the very top to select all posts. (If you have beginning thread that you want to keep, unchecked the box/es)
  • Click the Delete button.
  • Click OK to confirm "Delete Selected Threads?" pop-up box.
