Corequisite Labs

Corequisite Labs

A corequisite is a companion course that is required to be taken concurrently with the target course. The information presented, or the practice gained, in the corequisite course is considered necessary for success in the target course. Students must be concurrently enrolled in both sections.

Currently, Spanish is the only language that does not require a corequisite lab.

Examples of target and corequisite courses are given below, where the target course is presented first, followed by its corequisite course.

International Languages

  • ARAB 2 - Elementary Arabic; ARAB 902 - Arabic Language Lab
  • CHI 1 - Elementary Chinese; CHI 901 - Chinese Language Lab
  • GER 4 - Intermediate German; GER 904 - German Language Lab

For an International Language course from levels 1 - 4 (where the level of the course is included at the end of the course's name), you will be required to enroll in a 0.5 unit corequisite lab for that language. The 0.5 unit corequisite lab is graded Pass/No Pass. Students are required to do 24 hours of lab work outside of class in order to receive a Pass.  If you fail to complete the required 24 hours of lab time, then you will receive an NP ("No Pass") for the lab.

Lab requirements are listed in Canvas for each lab course (901, 902, 903/904). Lab requires 24 hours of independent work.  The assignments vary depending on the language, textbook, and software used by the instructor. If you have questions, please contact the language lab at (949) 582-4534 or send an email to sclanguagelab@saddleback.edu
