If the student believes that their course placement recommendation from their placement exams, evaluation of their alternative evidence or placement provided through the Guided Self Placement tool is not indicative of his/her abilities, they may take advantage of the Challenge and/or Appeal options. Students use these options if they have exhausted all other methods of clearing a prerequisite. Please see the sub-menu links from the red menu on the right for more information.
AB 705 Placement Reviews
With the introduction of Assembly Bill 705, Saddleback College is giving all students that received placement for math and/or English that were below college level, excluding ESL placement, the opportunity to submit a placement review request which in most cases will upgrade your placement. The minimum or "Baseline" placement levels for all non-ESL students as of Fall 2019 are as follows:
- Math: 103, 14, 10, 10+210, 7+207, 8+208 and 124+224
- English: 1A+201 and 1A
If your placement is lower than the classes listed above, please complete the form linked below to submit a placement review request.
Students that have received a placement that is lower than their abilities can take the Math Challenge exam to attempt to clear the prerequisite for the higher level course.
Challenge Exam Re-Test Policies
Students that wish to take one or more of the challenge exams again must follow the re-test policies set forth by the Math, Reading and English departments.
