Students that have attended another accredited college or university and have completed and passed a Math and English course that are equivalent to courses at Saddleback College may not have to take the assessment exams. Please see read below for the accepted methods and how to submit your Alternative Evidence.

English Alternative Evidence

Students may use Alternative Evidence in place of the English portion of the assessment exam or to clear a prerequisite if you provide one or more forms of the following evidence:

  • Provide an official or unofficial copy of your transcript(s) along with the math and English Alternative Evidence Evaluation form (see below) showing completed courses in English Composition from another accredited U.S. college or university and have received a passing (C or better) final grade in the course.
  • Provide proof of completion of the College Board Advanced Placement (AP)® English Lit/Comp or Lang/Comp exam with a score of 3 or higher. Only College Board official or unofficial results can be submitted.
  • Provide other California Community College English assessment results including your name, the college name and course placement. Please note that this Alternative Evidence option will not clear any prerequisites and you will be placed into basic skills English 300.

Note: High school English courses CANNOT be used for this evidence.

Math Alternative Evidence

Students may use Alternative Evidence in place of the Math portion of the assessment exam or to clear a prerequisite if you provide one or more forms of the following evidence:

  • Provide an official or unofficial copy of your transcript(s) showing courses taken an Algebra, Trig, Pre-Calculus or Calculus course at another accredited U.S. college or university and have received a passing (C or better) final grade in the course.
  • Provide proof of completion of the College Board Advanced Placement (AP)® math Calculus AB or BC exam with a score of 3 or better. Only College Board official or unofficial results can be submitted.
  • Provide other California Community College Math assessment results including your name, the college name and course placement. Please note that this Alternative Evidence option will not clear any prerequisites and you will be placed into basic skills Math 351.

Note: High school Math courses CANNOT be used for this evidence.

Steps for Submitting Alternative Evidence

  1. Print out and complete a Math and English Alternative Evidence Evaluation Form
  2. Evaluations may take up to 5 business days to evaluate so please submit your request at least 2 weeks prior to your registration period.
  3. Obtain a copy of your other college/university transcripts, California Community College assessment results or your College Board AP score report. Unofficial copies may be used for this process but they must have the college and student's name printed on them.
  4. Submit all documents to the Matriculation Office. Accepted methods of submittal are located at the top of the Math and English Alternative Evidence Evaluation Form.
  5. Follow the instructions on the form in box #5 to view your placement results on your MySite. We cannot provide any placement information over the phone or email.

Note: You must submit original College Board AP English results with with a score of 3 or higher to be accepted. If you are submitting the online version, please click on the "Download Score Report" link and submit that copy for evaluation.

Note: The Matriculation Office does not accept photos of any documents taken with a phone or a camera for English and/or Math placement. All documents must be printed/scanned and emailed, submitted by fax, or dropped off at Village 8-5.

Note: Students that are required to matriculate and use Alternative Evidence to clear their assessment exams are still required to complete the remaining steps of the Matriculation process.
