If you wish to enroll in a Saddleback College chemistry course, you must have either (1) completed the prerequisites for the particular course, or (2) are currently taking the prerequisites for the particular course. To Clear Prerequisites Taken at Irvine Valley College
If you have taken the prerequisites for a Saddleback College chemistry course at Irvine Valley College, any math prerequisite will already be in the district's registration system, but you will need to clear any chemistry prerequisite with a phone call to the Science/Mathematics/Engineering Division Office at 949-582-4820. If, however, you have taken the prerequisites for a Saddleback College chemistry course at a different college or university, you will need to complete the steps below before you will be able to enroll.
To Clear Math Prerequisites for Chemistry Courses
For the Math Prerequisite, if taken in High School:
Students may submit a district-issued or school-issued copy of their high school transcript, official or unofficial. (Note: student/parent portal transcripts and reports cards are not accepted.) The high school transcript must contain the following: successful completion (C or better, no C- grades) of equivalent math courses with an overall, non-weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher. The transcript should submitted along with the Initial Math and English Placement Request form. Evaluations may take up to 5 business days.
For the Math Prerequisite, if taken outside of the SOCCC District:
Students that have completed coursework from another U.S. regionally accredited college and have successfully passed a math courses with a grade of C or better may submit an unofficial or official transcript to clear a math prerequisite. The transcript should submitted along with the Prerequisite Evaluation Request form. Evaluations may take up to 5 business days.
To Clear Chemistry Prerequisites for Chemistry Courses
Chem 1A and Chem 1B each have a math prerequisite and a chemistry prerequisite.
The prerequisites for Chem 1A are Math 124 and Chem 3. The prerequisites of Chem 1B are Math 124 and Chem 1A.

For the Chemistry Prerequisite, if taken outside of the SOCCC District:
Students that have completed the prerequisite chemistry courses at another U.S. regionally accredited college will need to obtain an official or unofficial copy of their other college/university transcripts, which must include the college and student's name printed on them.
The official or unofficial transcripts can either be delivered in person to the Science/Mathematics/Engineering Division Office, located in SM 334, or students can call the Division Office at 949-582-4820, and arrange to email the official or unofficial transcripts to the Division Office. Evaluations may take up to 5 business days.
