Saddleback College to Recognize 52 Nursing Graduates at Pinning Ceremony

For Immediate Release:
November 28, 2018

Mission Viejo, CA – The Saddleback College Nursing Program will honor 52 graduating nursing students in a symbolic candle lighting and pinning ceremony to be held on Monday, December 3 at 7:00 pm in the McKinney Theatre. Each graduate will receive a time-honored pin, which serves as a symbol of a nurse’s service to others and their induction into the nursing profession.

Dr. Esther Gravis, Nursing Program Director, will welcome the graduating students, their family members and friends, dignitaries from the South Orange County Community College Board of Trustees and the Chancellor’s Office, college administrators, faculty members, and staff. A “Remember When” speech will be delivered by graduating students Alexander Abarca and Kaitlyn Havlena. Professor Christina Bowles will then present the fall 2018 graduating class.

Graduates will receive a symbolic pin from Professors Carolyn Danko and Jodi Caggiano. Graduating students Christian Alfaro and Charlotte Tucker will present the farewell address to their fellow classmates, and Brendon Lane will read the class pledge. Graduate Janine Hooper will read a message while Professors Phillis Kucharski and Candy Nelson take part in the lighting of the candles, symbolizing the “passing of the flame” from Florence Nightingale to each nurse. Dr. Gravis will present acknowledgments and a farewell to the class.
