One Book, One College is proud to announce our participation in the Book-to-Action program. This program was developed by the California State Library and the California Center for the Book. Book-to-Action builds on the traditional book club concept, but in addition to providing an opportunity to collectively read and discuss a book, Book-to-Action enables readers to put their new-found knowledge into action by engaging in a community service project related to the book's topic.
In conjunction with the Spring 2018 selection of the book Undocumented: A Dominican Boy's Odyssey from a Homeless Shelter to the Ivy League, OB1C is collecting children's books to give to students at Kinoshita Elementary School in San Juan Capistrano, grades 1-5. Kinoshita Elementary is a Title 1 school where 93.5% of the students are socioeconomically disadvantaged and 78.9% are English learners (as reported in the 2015-2016 School Accountability Report Card). Our goal is to give every single student at least one book. Just as Dan-el Padilla Peralta's life was transformed by his passion for books and the help of a volunteer named Jeff, we hope to enrich students' lives by encouraging literacy.
Please join us by donating money to purchase books (click on the button above) or by bringing a book, in good condition, to one of the three drop-off locations on campus:
- Library (LRC 3rd floor)
- Faculty Center for Student Success (BGS 249)
- AGB Building
