Biography

Barbara Holmes was born and raised in Southern California.  She attended Brigham Young University for her BFA and San Diego State University where she received her MFA in Furniture Making.  Barbara has exhibited nationally and internationally, is an Alfreda Maloof scholarship recipient, and has been awarded art residencies at I-Park, Facebook, Capital City Arts Initiative, Recology, and Anderson Ranch Arts Center.  She has been commissioned for projects at Facebook, for collectors Ron and Anita Wornick, Laura and Gary Lauder, and has work in the permanent collections at SFMOMA, Recology, and Facebook (et al.).  Her work often involves transforming wood refuse and construction waste, giving the material new context and meaning. She has been teaching art and design for over 25 years.
