We are pleased to offer you, our Orange County residents, free classes in English and Spanish to enhance your parenting skills, strengthen your support network, and increase your understanding of the children in your care.
- Find the class that you would like to take.
- Click on the Registration Link under the class title.
- Complete all the registration questions.
- You will receive a return email about joining the class.
Before the training starts:
- Refer to the "How to Enroll" guide above to get started.
- Download the Zoom app to access the workshop on a device (computer or phone) that has a camera and a microphone. Click on this link to download Zoom to your device: https://zoom.us/download.
- You do not need to sign up/register for a Zoom account to log in to the training - you only need to download the app if you will be joining from a smartphone or tablet.
- You must be available for the entire duration of the designated training hours.
- You must be able to participate the entire duration of the class undisturbed at a quiet location where your face is visible via video and where you are able to type responses.
- Log-on on time. Admittance to the class will close 15 minutes after the start time.
- Everyone can see everything you are doing, so please be mindful of your surroundings. Please refrain from "lounging" or laying down while in class.
- Just as childcare is not provided for onsite FKCE classes, please refrain from having your children, other family members, or anyone who is not registered for the workshop in the virtual class with you. If childcare is an issue, please select a workshop time where you can participate undisturbed.
- Please do not multitask while on the call. You must give your full attention to this important training.
- Please make sure you are at a stationary location. Do not participate in class while you are driving. Do not participate in the class while you are walking, doing household chores, or any other activity where you are moving between locations.
- Active participation is required. If you have challenges with typing in the chat box, please have paper and pen ready so you can write your responses and show them on screen.
NOTE: Your certificate will be emailed to you as a PDF.
You must pre-register to ensure your place in the class. All Foster & Kinship Care Education classes are free.
Please note that all approved resource caregivers must do eight training hours every year.
How to register:
Open the "Classes" or "Clases en Español" page and view or print the Schedule of Classes. Select your classes. Follow the registration instructions listed under the location of your class.
NOTE: There must be at least two participants for classes to be held. Classes start promptly at the start time indicated in the catalog. In order to receive the full credit hours for a class, you must arrive on time and attend the entire class.
Canceling your registration: If you need to cancel your registration, please email or call your registration site and update your status.
Priority registration is given to Resource Families (prospective, new and/or licensed) and respite caregivers. However, space permitting, most of our classes are open to the community. We encourage social services staff, juvenile probation officers, group home staff, foster family agency homes (FFAs), and family and friends of resource families to participate in our classes. Children are welcome when childcare is offered.
If you require disability accommodation to participate in a class, please contact the Saddleback College FKCE program office at scfkce@saddleback.edu at least 14 days prior to the class for assistance.
