The 2021-22 Saddleback College Men’s Golf and Baseball teams excelled in the classroom as well as in competition.
Both teams were selected as California Community College Athletic Association Scholar Teams, and will be honored at the CCCAA Celebration of Scholar Athletes on March 29 as part of the 2023 CCCAA Convention in Sacramento. The Scholar Team awards reflect the academic achievement of the entire roster in each sport.
“This is an honor that should be the goal of all our teams and one for which you should be extremely proud,” CCCAA Executive Director Jennifer Cardone wrote in her notification to President Stern of the awards.
Academic prowess carried over to the golf course and diamond for the Bobcats. Coach Wayne Westling’s Men’s Golf team won the Orange Empire Conference championship and finished runner-up in the CCCAA State Championship, while Coach Sommer McCartney’s Baseball team advanced to the CCCAA Southern Regional final after winning the OEC title.
Westling and McCartney each earned Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year awards in 2021-22.
