Dear Saddleback College Emeritus Institute Students:

Due to the unprecedented situation in which we all find ourselves, it is my absolute hope each of you takes all necessary precautions to maintain social distance and to keep our community safe.

As of March 13th, all Emeritus Institute courses have stopped meeting in person, until at least May 1st.

The majority of Emeritus Institute courses will now be held online/remotely starting on or before March 30, 2020.

You may have already received emails from your faculty members indicating their courses are starting online earlier than the 30th. This has been approved. For all other courses, we anticipate the majority of courses ready to start online, at a minimal capacity, by 3/30/20.

Faculty will be utilizing a few different formats for continuing Emeritus courses online.

  1. Email - please check your Saddleback College Email and Personal email regularly for lesson plans, lectures, and helpful content associated with your classes.

  2. Zoom.com - online video conferencing. Click here to learn how to set up a zoom account.

  3. Canvas - This is the College's online learning software. You can click here to login to Canvas with your username and password.

We understand not every student will be able to participate in online classes. However, due to the constraints of not meeting in person, our goal is to meet our mission as much as possible. Our mission still is to promote lifelong learning by providing academically rigorous, mentally stimulating, socially engaging, and health improving courses for older adults throughout south Orange County.

If you know fellow students who are not able to participate online, I encourage you to call them and discuss what you are learning in class.

Finally, during this time, I ask for you to be patient with your faculty members, fellow students, and with our office. Faculty and staff are now working from home and adapting to a new way of teaching and serving students.

The best way to contact the Emeritus Institute office is through our email address: scemeritus@saddleback.edu. You may call our office number at 949-582-4835 and leave a voicemail. A staff member will return your call by the next business day.

Thank you, and please expect to hear more from your faculty members.
