Saddleback students, join us for our Week of Workshops (WOW) from Tuesday, August 15 through Friday, August 18 and kick off your semester with SUCCESS!
Workshops are scheduled in-person and online throughout the day. All students are welcome!
Workshops are facilitated by Saddleback faculty and staff to help you have the most successful semester possible.

During this workshop students will have the opportunity to ask a Counselor questions regarding majors and educational goal and complete majors/career exploration activity. This training for new student workers will cover Saddleback College structure and services, customer service (professionalism, dress, conduct), an overview of the importance of soft skills, an introduction to FERPA/confidentiality, and general employee information such as staff resources and Workday basics. *You must be a newly hired student worker to attend. This workshop will explore the many tools online and in-person services available to you at Saddleback College. Join Professor Nicole Major as she provides strategies, her course structure, the basics of Canvas, and other pertinent information for students to feel comfortable taking her online class. She will help her students navigate Canvas and demonstrate all areas of her course in order for students to be successful from the start. This workshop is a great opportunity for students who are new to the online class environment and/or would like to become familiar with the course before it begins. 5 points extra credit will be offered for attending.

Trigonometry Review

This workshop will review trigonometry using a unit circle approach. Attendees will learn how to use the unit circle to evaluate trigonometric functions as well as graph the six trigonometric functions. This is a great review for those of you planning to take Physics 2A, Physics 4A, pre-calculus, or calculus.

This is a necessary skill needed to successfully learn in your pre-calculus or calculus courses. Preparing for 3C: reviewing parametric curves

Parametric curves are covered briefly in Math 3B, and used a lot in Math 3C. In this workshop, we'll focus on
getting a solid foundation on this prerequisite topic. As time allows, we may spend time reviewing other prerequisite topics from 3B such as polar coordinates, integrating powers of trig functions, and conic sections. (This will depend on time and student interest.) Students are encouraged to attend in person, but the workshop is also available via zoom.

Trig Review

Trig is an incredibly important topic in precalculus and all levels of calculus. In this workshop, we'll review the basic definitions of the 6 trigonometric functions (both the triangle and the unit circle versions.) This will be the first of several workshops offered throughout the semester. The focus of these workshops will be to increase understanding of the underlying concepts in trig, and thereby reduce the need for a lot of memorization. Trig functions are periodic, but if you find the cycle you're in is to memorize, then forget, then re‐memorize and forget again...these workshops are for you! Students are encouraged to attend in‐person, but the workshop is also available via zoom for those who are not able to be on campus.
